A Florida Transit Safety Summit was held in a morning session at the Florida Public Transportation Association’s (FPTA) mid-year Professional Development Workshop on June 19, 2013. The Summit brought together transit safety professionals and others within Florida’s transit systems that are committed to public transit safety. The Summit was led by FDOT and supported by CUTR. The summit was a forum to share the vision of becoming the catalyst for structured ongoing dialogue about transit safety designed to:
- Define key transit safety issues and impacts
- Promote new interdisciplinary collaboration between Florida’s transit safety personnel
- Develop steps of action for a continuing coordinated effort to improve safety
- Improve data collection and sharing
- Establish roles and responsibilities for a Florida Transit Safety Network
